Trying to preserve this fall forever

(like pressing a fall leaf and framing it for quick and easy autumnal art*)

Making Christmas gift lists and checking 'em twice

Remembering why I love having a wood burning fireplace

*I pressed the leaf between two sheets of parchment paper under a stack of books for two weeks, then used a light misting of spray glue to attach it to gray card stock

Visiting a local cemetery with my Mom and Dad for Halloween (and academic study)

Making lists for Christmas presents (when you are on a budget you have to shop ahead)

Finding new dinner recipes for fall: African Peanut Stew is my favorite

Looking forward to Preacher (an AMC series based on my favorite comic) with a little bit of trepidation.  The lead actor is #notmyJesse, but I so want it to be good...

Washing all my work clothes before I have to report to campus Aug 12

(and drying them on the line in between rainstorms)

Finally getting that massage my kids got me for Mother's Day...

...then spending the day convincing myself that I deserve a monthly trip to the day spa lol

Getting ready for a big tree removal in our front yard

Doing little projects around the house
Planning a lovely day trip for next Saturday which will include, you guessed it, more graveyards & history adventures

the tree to be removed.  It has gotten too tall to maintain, and we've had several branches fall off and ding the cars (including one not-so-little "ding" that took out the HHR's windshield a few years back), and is threatening the cable and electric lines to the house.  We finally found a local tree guy that we trust and won't charge an arm and a leg, so its time.  I'm looking forward to an autumn/winter windy night that doesn't keep Jeremy up fretting!

I apologize for the iphone pics, but it was so busy and messy I didn't want to drag out the camera until the whole thing was done.  I'm going to pull together a summer Cecilia house tour soon, I promise!

*The french door install was more complicated than anticipated, so we may have to call in professionals for the front door install.  We have a few smaller home projects I want to do, which means we now debate whether to do the small projects and wait on the front door, or do the front door and hold off on the small projects.  Sigh.

*I picked up the tray, pitcher and glasses on sale at Pier One last week-- aren't they the cutest??

We had pretzel bread, beer cheese and salame, plus a Scorpion recipe from Trader Vic's.  Ki brought the most delicious tomato bites (and I will try to get a tutorial outta her for these because damn they were good), cheese spread and other lovelies along with her husband Drew's banging chicken wings.  Is there anyone else out there who would happily live off of appetizers?
